Kanti Velugu, A Free Eye Test To Be Launched on August 15

Hyderabad: To ensure better vision for the people, Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao decided to provide free checkup and medication for the people in the state through Kanti Velugu scheme. The programme, which is scheduled to launch on August 15 also provides free eye surgeries and spectacles across the state. KCR along with Governor ESL Narasimhan will take part in the launch programme at different locations.

It is learnt that the KCR will launch the Kanti Velugu programme in his home constituency Gajwel while the Governor's venue is yet to be decided. Other ministers of the state were also requested to launch the programme at their respective constituencies.

Addressing a review meeting on Saturday, KCR said that operation for the eye diseases like cataract, glaucoma, retinopathy and corneal disorders will be treated under the scheme . It is learnt that the government has decided to conduct free eye tests for over 3.5 crore people in the state. The CM also directed the officials of the health department to chalk out a schedule for the eye tests, treatment and measures to demonstrate the people when they come to the eye camps for a checkup.

Meanwhile, the arrangements for the launch of the programme are going at a brisk pace with over 799 teams each comprising of an MBBS doctor, Optometrist, ANM and others specialists. These teams were told to conduct tests on an average of 250 persons in a day.  The officials informed to the chief minister that they would be providing eye drops, 34 lakh spectacles to the people who are in need of it and they had identified 114 government and private hospitals to conduct the tests.

KCR also ordered the officials to deploy unemployed MBBS graduates along with the specialists to avoid disturbance to the doctors who are already working in hospitals. The CM also ensured of providing two weekend holidays to the teams along with free transport and accommodation during the eye camps.
